Where Excellent Divers Are Born
A scuba diving institution, whose establishment was built upon our founders’ concern in 2019 about proper scuba diving education, especially in Indonesia.
To answer that concern, our journey starts in Jakarta, 2020, when we decided to use the terms “Dive Academy“ instead of the usual “Dive Center” terminology. We took this term of choice as our first act of commitment to solve scuba diving education problems.
Finally, on the 2nd semester of 2022 we had started to build our own facility and run our business in Labuan Bajo, so we could keep giving better education and services to our clients. We’re still growing, and we’ll keep developing.

The name “Sea Familia” originally chosen by the founder and owner of Sea Familia Phinisi (our liveaboard vessel, the OG Sea Familia).
As the name should’ve already implied, we believed in the power of kinship. We’re not limiting our status and role only as teacher-student, or trip organizer-guest. No, we’re a family. Because we will give our best when it comes to family, right?
In the specific context of scuba education, our 1st tagline represents how serious our commitment is towards proper scuba education, and how dedicated we are towards properly educating our students, all the way from the “new born” to the professional level.
Meanwhile, our 2nd tagline stands in a more general context to represents our commitment to combine mindfulness principal with scuba diving principal, which utilization will bring you one of a kind experience you’ll not find anywhere else
In order to provide you the proper experiences you need, we always underlie what we do with our 3 Core Values: HOLISTIC, MINDFULNESS, and PERSONAL TOUCH.
Scuba diving is a unique extreme activity, that’s why it’s very important to give a holistic comprehension in every learning process.
Not only about the “What” and “How, we also taught our students about the “Why” for every topic they learned So when they’re certified, they’re QUALIFIED.
Only through this process a divercould understand how safety holds the main determining factor of enjoyment in scuba diving.
In the holistic comprehension a proper mindset is the foundation of every skills and knowledge, because mindset is based on values, reflected on attitudes, and formed patterns of behavior called habits.
From what we’ve learned, mindfulness is the perfect one to be embedded in scuba diving as a core mindset for scuba divers.
It is proved that mindfulness can boost our dive experience and mold a good diver’s habits if we embed it from the start and practice it well.
In the embedment process, we observed that the most relevant way to do it is to treat our students and fellow divers as a family.
By treating them as family, we’re going to treat them with attention and care, with less – or should we say, more proper – boundaries in the process.
Reinforced by the fact that scuba diving is a personal activity, personal touch is something valuable to be applied, especially in the learning process. One‘s way and pace of learning will not be similar with others’
We respect those individual differences through our manifestation in how we run our course, especially the Open Water Scuba Diver Course: where an instructor only handle 2 students for each group/batch. Therefore our instructor(s) will be able to give the proper personal care and attention for each student in their class.
Sea Familia Dive Academy was founded in 2020 by this dynamic duo, whose history started far back before they were bachelors of psychology.
Certified in two different agencies, they believed that differences isn’t something to compete, but to complete one and another.
The spirit they want to share through this academy, is not only to provide proper scuba education, but also to spread more positive dive habits in the community through mindful mindset and practices.
Last but not least, taking the community as one big family of the sea, because no matter what your agencies are,

PADI Divemaster – “The Mind”
Despite his daily routine as a businessman whose activities centralized in big cities, Justin had fell in love to the world of scuba diving since he took his Open Water Diver certification in 2017.
That’s what moved him to built and run his first liveaboard vessel (the first KLM Sea Familia) in early 2019, and further motivated him to do a ‘deeper dive’: to be a dive professional.
His business background, equipped with his flexible-bubbly energy, makes him a perfect figure to systematize Adam’s random idealistic ideas into realistic executable strategies.

NAUI Instructor – “The Soul”
Already had some kind of special bonds with the nature and water activities since he was little, Adam got his Open Water certification in 2017.
His love of the activity, combined with his love to develop others, and equipped with his high concern of recreational diving education, was – and still is – the reason he decided to become a dive instructor.
Adam’s deep-philosophical yet idealistic minds is what makes him able to complete Justin’s strategies with proper values, which will be the ‘compass’ in how they run this academy.
As the term we used for our name, “Dive Academy”, of course we have courses as our flagship products. “Courses”, because asides from our recreational dive courses, we also have first aid courses.
As a recreational diver, of course exploring the underwater world is the reason why we took our courses and get certified. We understand what we always craved about, so we provide you with the trips we dreamed about, in style, with Sea Familia Liveaboard.
Some of you might preferred to have a liveaboard with your own group of people you already know. No worries, because you can charter our vessel and arrange your own trip, both dive or leisure, according to your own will.
We understand that dive equipments can be a costly investment, and some of us need more time to get our own. So if you don’t have your own equipments, you can still dive with us by renting our equipments.

As the first gateway into the scuba diving world, we believe that entry level is the most important course from all courses in recreational diving. That’s the reason why we apply special treatment, specifically for this level
